Blog#42 Needs You!

rimalogosimple

Dear readers,

Thanks to readers like you, since Blog#42 was established in July of 2014, my articles have been read nearly over 130,000 140,000 198,000 257,000 290,000 325,000 350,000 750,000 times. Please help me do better!

In the interest of full disclosure, I always intended to get back to my career as a writer and earn a living from it. Like everyone else, I need to earn a living. At the moment, unfortunately, I am not. Jobs in the publishing industry are still vanishing, especially in our incredibly shrinking media. I made a career in publishing and hoped to get back to writing for a living. Many of my colleagues in the space I used to work in moved on after the tech bubble. Some moved to print media and then had to move again. I know many journalists who are unemployed and making their living thanks to contributions from their readers on services like Patreon and PayPal.

As it became clear, in early March 2020, that we were entering a pandemic, my husband had to give up his work as I am immunocompromised. Now that my husband is sidelined from his work, your contributions are needed more than ever. Many recurring $1 contributions will make all the difference for our family.

I will do my work right here. I ask that you consider supporting my site through monthly donations on PayPal. I’m not asking for the equivalent of a subscription the the NY Times or Washington Post. Please consider giving $1-5 a month. $1 a month is extremely helpful.

Thank you for your support!

  1. Rima, if an editor is going to the trouble of accepting and critiquing instead of just rejecting your work, it’s a huge compliment, not a dismissal. Editors have a sense of what people will read and why — it’s worth paying attention. Do they want you to tone down the style or the message or both? You can change style or make it more readable without diluting the message. I know several successful professional writers, and heard a lot of stories about the business; it’s a rare (paid) writer that gets free rein.

    From the immortal Robert Burns:

…O wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae mony a blunder free us…

    1. Naomi – it was very gracious of you to respond to Rima. I would hope your words of wisdom be accepted and valued. Rima speaks with passion and intellect but I wonder if she understands both the practicalities and nuances you speak of. Rima’s message resonates and deserves a greater audience. I hope she listens to those like you who I believe has knowledge about getting a message across.

Robert Burns prose may not be immortal, it is definitely enduring.

  2. Consider building a community on Patreon. I don’t work for them, so don’t worry – this isn’t a sales pitch. I genuinely think you have great things to say, an active audience, and you should be able find a way to make some money off that combo. Best of luck!
