What’s Wrong With the DNC? Debbie Wasserman Schultz | #MoneyInPolitics on Blog#42

Debbie Wasserman Schultz embodies precisely what is wrong with the Democratic establishment leadership in one short interview answer:

In these times, having the temerity to include big money interests as part of the Democratic “big tent” in the belief that its influence can’t or won’t corrupt the party in the same way it has the GOP, is the same kind of foolish self-delusion that one can both handle and indulge in their addiction.

Entire empires have fallen to corruption all throughout our history. As she states, the GOP is currently imploding because it couldn’t handle the corrupting influence of money in politics.

Wasserman-Schultz’ arrogance and imprudence, as demonstrated in her “inclusive” statement, is both a sign and a symptom that the establishment in the Democratic party has completely misjudged the mood of its voting public.

We are now seeing the consequences of the DNC’s ill-advised refusal to reckon with the lessons of Election 2014. Bernie or Bust is about more than some actress digging her golden heels and refusing to support the establishment candidate. It is about a third to half of a voting bloc that may well ditch a candidate that is foisted upon it, in a mass-protest against the corruption and power grab of the neoliberal wing of the party, even as a defeated Bernie Sanders falls in line and supports Hillary Clinton, if she wins the nomination. Whether this is a case of arrogance both on the parts of Wasserman Schultz and the Clinton campaign to ignore very loud warning signals from voters, the fact remains: any portion of 30% of democrats who either stay home or vote Trump may well make all the difference and hand Trump or Cruz their victory, if Paul Ryan isn’t installed at the GOP convention.

  1. Except the people on the far left don’t want to be absorbed by the Democratic party, Debbie. Look how that worked out the last time around. I notice that she never answered the question as asked, either.

    1. Well, she answered it enough to give us a clear indication who exactly it is gets her attention… The brute force employed by the DNC won’t go over well, especially if Sanders is successful from here on out and comes up empty handed.
